Exploring Safety and Coping in Trauma-Informed Healthcare
This course is eligible for one hour of CE/CME for MDs, PAs, NPs, RNs, LPNs, LVNs, Social Workers, and Long Term Care Administrators. This was recorded on 10/25/2022 and the target audience level is Beginner.
How do we understand the concept of safety from our patients' perspective? How do we respond to our patients' emotions in a way that is affirming and helpful? In this presentation, participants will be encouraged to gain a deeper awareness of the concept of safety in trauma-informed care, as it relates to both patients and providers, both physically and emotionally. Critical perspectives relating to role of trauma-informed care for our patients will be discussed and concrete strategies for using and modeling coping strategies will be shared.

- Participants will describe the importance of safely in trauma-informed care
- Participants will identify 2 challenges to safely experienced by patients and providers
- Participants will describe 2 coping strategies to assist with supporting patients experiencing a trauma response

Jennifer Sokira
MMT, LCAT, MT-BC and Curator of AccentCare's Trauma-Informed Lecture Series
Jennifer Sokira is a Board Certified Music Therapist with more than two decades of clinical experience in multiple practice areas including developmental health, hospice, trauma-informed care, disaster response and complex PTSD. Founding Director of Connecticut Music Therapy Services, LLC and former Clinical Director at the Resiliency Center of Newtown, Jen is a passionate advocate for trauma-informed awareness and training, writing and presenting on these topics regionally, nationally and internationally. As a consultant and educator, she supports professionals and organizations who are responding to trauma and community tragedy to enhance their perspective knowledge, and systems so they can better serve their patients and clients.
A graduate of Duquesne University (BS in Music Therapy, voice concentration) and Temple University (Master of Music Therapy), Jennifer also has advanced training in Brainspotting and is a fellow of the Association for Music and Imagery. She is adjunct faculty, for Alverno College's MMT program and for Quinnipiac University's minor in music. She teaches regularly in music therapy continuing education spaces. She serves the profession of music therapy in various capacities, currently as Vice President Elect of the American Music Therapy Association.
